The ruling on slaughtering on behalf of the deceased every month

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The question: His second question says: There is a belief among some people that when one of the family members dies, they slaughter an animal after one month, intending by this to mark the completion of the month. Their second belief is that no one from the deceased's family eats from the slaughtered animal. We ask for guidance regarding these beliefs?
The answer: This is a religious innovation (bid'ah) with no basis or foundation, and it is obligatory to abandon it; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.من عمل عملًا ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
meaning: it is rejected. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) would preach on Friday and say in his sermon:
The best of the speech is embodied in the Book of Allah, and the best of the guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad. And the most evil affairs are their innovations; and every innovation is error.أما بعد: فإن خير الحديث كتاب الله، وخير الهدي هدي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، وشر الأمور محدثاتها، وكل بدعة ضلالة
Sahih Muslim 867a
So, slaughtering on behalf of the deceased every month, or every two months, or every year, or every forty days, has no basis. What is prescribed is the sacrificial animal (udhiyah). If one offers a sacrifice during the days of the Festival of Sacrifice on behalf of himself, his household, and his deceased relatives, there is no harm in it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer a sacrifice on the day of the festival with two black-and-white camels, slaughtering them; he would slaughter one on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and the other on behalf of those from his Ummah who declared the oneness of Allah. This is called the udhiyah, and it is a recommended practice (sunnah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do it and continued to do so every year.
So, the recommended practice for the Ummah is to slaughter that, for a person to offer a sacrifice on behalf of himself and his household with one sacrificial animal. And if he offers more than that, there is no harm. And if he offers one on behalf of himself, one on behalf of his mother, and one on behalf of his father, there is no harm; it is charity.
As for making something for the sake of the deceased to be done in the month, or the week, or the year, where so-and-so eats it, or so-and-so does not eat it, all of this has no basis. Rather, it is from religious innovations and from the matters of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance (jahiliyyah). Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
