The Ruling on Reciting the Qur'an for the Deceased and Slaughter for Them

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listener, Isa Abd al-Nabi Abd al-Rahman, asks about reciting the Qur'an for the deceased: is it lawful? And does the deceased benefit from the animal that the family slaughters before he is taken out for burial?
Please inform us. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
There is no basis for reciting for the dead, and reciting for the dead is not prescribed. However, one should supplicate for them with forgiveness and mercy after death. In all circumstances, one supplicates for the dead with forgiveness. If they were Muslims, one supplicates for them with forgiveness and mercy at the time of death, before death, and after death. One constantly supplicates for them with forgiveness, mercy, safety from the Fire, multiplication of good deeds, expiation of sins, and pardon for mistakes. One supplicates for them.
As for reciting the Qur'an for the dead, or over the graves, this has no basis in the most correct opinion of the scholars. Rather, it is among the religious innovations that have no basis.
Likewise, slaughtering an animal for the deceased on the day of death, or on the fourth day, or on the fortieth day, or on the seventh day, based on the belief that this is prescribed, has no basis. However, if one slaughters at any time and gives charity to the poor, or gives charity in money or food at any time without intending a specific day, not on the day of death, nor on any other specific day, but according to what is easy, there is nothing wrong with that. Charity for the dead is sought after and contains much good. As for doing it with the intention of it being prescribed, such as slaughtering on the day of death, or on the fourth, seventh, tenth day, or on the anniversary of the death, there is no basis for this. But one may give charity whenever one wishes, with money, food, clothing, or by slaughtering an animal and distributing it to the poor, or the like. All of this is permissible. Yes.
