Ruling on specifying slaughter in the month of Sha'ban

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We have a custom of slaughtering an animal for the sake of Allah every year in the month of Sha'ban, each according to his ability. Is this slaughter permissible, even though some people say: This is a sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and they consider this part of the fidyah?

Answer:
Specifying a time for slaughter has no evidence for it, except what Allah has prescribed on the days of sacrifice. Therefore, one should not specify Sha'ban or any other month for slaughter. If people have made it a habit, it is a bad custom that must be changed so that the ignorant do not think it is an act of nearness to Allah and obedience.
A person draws near to Allah with slaughtered animals at any time: in Ramadan, in Shawwal, in Sha'ban, in Dhul-Qa'dah, in Muharram, in Rabi' al-Awwal, in Rabi' al-Thani, at any time. If he draws near for the sake of Allah whenever Allah makes it easy for him to slaughter, then if he slaughters in Sha'ban or in Ramadan or in Shawwal or elsewhere, camels, cattle, or sheep, to give to the poor and needy, or to his relatives and neighbors, or to his guests, or the like, all of that is permissible.
As for specifying Sha'ban based on a belief, or specifying Ramadan based on a belief, or specifying any other month, that is not permissible. However, if he slaughters in Ramadan for the sake of the virtue of the month and intends to draw near to Allah in this noble month, that is permissible for the sake of the virtue of the month, just as he draws near to Allah on the days of sacrifice, because Allah has prescribed slaughter in that. Yes.
