Voluntary Fasting for Women

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The following message was received by the program from our brother As'ad Jasim from Iraq. Our brother has a set of questions, one of which says: Tell us about a woman and voluntary fasting; what is she required to do?
Answer: A woman is like a man; the obligatory fast for Muslims is only Ramadan. As for anything other than that, it is recommended, such as fasting six days of Shawwal, such as fasting three days of every month, and if it is the white days, that is better, and such as fasting on Mondays and Thursdays. All of these are acts of worship, all are acts of worship, and all are voluntary. If she fasts one day and breaks the fast the next day, that is also the best of fasting; it is the fasting of Dawud (peace be upon him) for both men and women. However, a woman must not fast while her husband is present without his permission. A woman must not fast while her husband is present and not traveling without his permission. This is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
It is not lawful for a lady to fast (Nawafil) without the permission of her husband when he is at homeلا تصوم وزوجها شاهد إلا بإذنه
Sahih al-Bukhari 5195
, except for Ramadan, which is an obligation for everyone.
As for voluntary fasting, she must not fast without his permission. He should give her permission if there is no hardship for him, and if there is hardship for him, he should prevent her from it, and praise be to Allah. She must refrain, as it is obligatory that her husband takes precedence, and her husband's need takes precedence. Yes.
