A woman fasting without her husband's permission

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 19307 )
Q3: Is it permissible for a woman to fast without her husband's permission in a month other than Ramadan ?
A3: It is not permissible for a woman to perform voluntary fasting except with her husband's permission, based on what Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated, saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A woman should not fast while her husband is present except with his permissionلا تصوم المرأة وزوجها شاهد إلا بإذنه
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 13:818
. It was recorded by al-Bukhari in (Sahih al-Bukhari). See (Fath al-Bari 9/293). And based on what Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
When her husband is present, no woman should fast any day apart from the month of Ramadan without his permission.لا تصوم المرأة وزوجها شاهد يومًا من غير شهر رمضان إلا بإذنه
Sunan Ibn Majah 1761Sahih (Darussalam)
. It was narrated by Abu Dawud in (Sunan Abu Dawud), see (Awn al-Ma'bud vol. 7, p. 128), and it was narrated by Ibn Majah in (Sunan Ibn Majah vol. 1, p. 56). Accordingly, a woman has no right to perform voluntary fasting except with his permission, because voluntary fasting is a recommended practice (sunnah) and the husband's right is obligatory, and fasting prevents her from fulfilling some of his obligatory rights over her. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
