A widow working to support her children in an environment of mixed gatherings

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Regarding a wife whose husband has passed away, where there is no place reserved for women in which she can work to provide for her children, what is the ruling, given that she has no one to support her?

Answer:
The ruling is that she should seek other work in a safe home, or ask her brothers. It is permissible for her to ask when there is a need; if there is a dire necessity, there is no harm in asking, meaning her wealthy and rich brothers and sisters, so that they can assist her until she finds work. However, putting her religion and morals at risk among men is not allowed.
But when Allah makes her affairs easy, she should support those under her care through permissible means, either by asking the wealthy to extend help to her, or by asking the state if there is hope in the state, or if there is work, even in homes, that helps her with her children. And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way outوَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا ۝
[At-Talaq 65:2]
and He provides for him from where he does not expect [Al-Talaq: 2-3],
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him of his matter ease.وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ يُسْرًا
[Al-Talaq: 4].
So she must strive with all her effort in what helps her feed her children. May Allah help her find what sustains her life and the lives of her children, even if it is little, until Allah relieves the situation.
However, making this a path to a job with men, or studying with men, is not allowed; because the loss of her religion is the great danger. If she died and her children died while hungry, it would not harm them; the matter is easy. If she died hungry, and her children died of hunger, that is better for them than dying other than in Islam, or upon major sins and wrongs.
