The Ruling on Supporting Children and a Wife with Forbidden Wealth

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! What is the ruling if a person consumes forbidden wealth and has children and other people he supports? How should they act in this situation?
Answer: The situation differs among them. As for those in dire necessity, we hope that nothing is required of them, such as young children and those similar to them, because he is the one who supports them, so the sin is upon him. As for the wife who knows this, she has the right to request divorce and leave him; because this is a legal excuse for her. If his earnings are corrupt, she has the excuse to request divorce, go to her parents' house, and demand that he change his source of income or divorce her, so that she does not remain with one who consumes forbidden wealth.
As for if he has good earnings but there is a mixture in his wealth, where some of it is a doubtful matter, this is easier and the matter is broader in it. But if he is known for corrupt earnings and all of his earnings are corrupt, then his wife has an excuse and his children have an excuse not to eat from his house, as do the older, independent, and knowledgeable ones. As for those in dire necessity among his young children and the poor who have no means, we hope that Allah will forgive them if they eat from his wealth in dire necessity, until Allah provides them with a relief and an exit.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
