Ruling on keeping a wife who committed zina and repented

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
One of the brothers asks about a woman who became pregnant from unlawful sexual intercourse, and she gave birth to a child four years ago. She confessed to her husband, and he knows the truth. He is now unsure whether he should divorce her or keep her. She has no one but him. She confessed while she was praying and fasting, and she admitted to her mistake. What is your opinion, Your Eminence?

Answer:
She must treat this child well and raise him, perhaps Allah will guide him and benefit through him later. The sin is on the one who committed the zina, not on the child. As for the sin of the one who committed the zina, the man and the woman are the ones who bear the sin—may Allah keep us safe—and there is no blame on her for raising the child, treating him well, and fulfilling his rights until Allah raises him in Islam.
If the woman repents and turns back to Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He), her husband keeps her despite her having committed zina; it does not make her forbidden to him. However, she must repent to Allah with a sincere repentance, turn away from this falsehood, and be careful thereafter. Her husband should watch over her, take care of her, and strive for the means of her protection, safety, and salvation from this matter. There is no blame on him for keeping her, for her zina does not make her forbidden to him if she repents and becomes righteous.
However, if he suspects her and thinks she is betraying him, then there is no good in her remaining with him. But as long as she has shown repentance, he has a good opinion of her, and it has become apparent from her that she is returning to what is right, the truth, and guidance, then there is nothing wrong with him covering for her and not disclosing this matter, but rather keeping it between him and her. He should treat her well with advice, direction, guidance, and warning to return to what Allah has forbidden for her. And Allah accepts the repentance of those who repent .
