The Ruling on Marrying a Second Wife Without a Reason

Question:
Is a man permitted to marry another woman without any reason prompting him to do so?

Answer:
Yes. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: [Surat al-Nisa: 3]. "Taba" means whatever you wish, and whatever you find good. So he may marry, even if it is more than one; because this benefits him in every case. Because restraining desire, and doing what helps in restraining sexual instinct, and having many children, this is required. He may marry to seek children, and he may marry to further distance himself from the causes of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation).
