Question:
I work in Riyadh, and my wife and children are living with my father and mother in the Jizan region. I want to bring my wife and children to me, but my father and mother refuse and do not want that. I do not know what to do? I am afraid that my mother will be upset if I do this and take my wife and children to Riyadh. I ask you to guide us to the righteous action without incurring the anger of Allah?
The Shaykh: Did you repeat?
The student: I work in Riyadh, and my wife and children are living with my father and mother in Jizan. I want to bring my wife and children to Riyadh, but my father and mother refuse. I do not want to cause them anger, so what should I do?
Answer:
You must strive to please them, perhaps they will agree to moving your wife; because you are in need of your wife. You must strive, perhaps they will agree. Send kind people to mediate. If the mother is able to serve the father and attend to the father's needs, but if she is not able and your father is in need of a wife, and your mother is likewise; then keep her with them, and be patient and endure.
And if you are able to marry a second wife, marry, marry a second wife. Set her up in Riyadh with you, and leave the mother of the children with your parents if they are in need of that, or because they do not agree. So combine the two benefits: please your parents, and have the wife serve them. And marry if you are able, even if in debt, and Allah will settle it for you. Marry whoever is made easy from the good and righteous women in Riyadh; she will attend to your affairs. And if you travel there, and return to the mother of your children, there is no blame on you, and praise be to Allah.
And do not anger your parents, and do not cause them hardship, especially if they are in need of your wife to serve them due to their advanced age. But if they are not in need; then send someone to mediate between you and them if marriage is not made easy for you ... And if marriage is made easy; then praise be to Allah, marry, and you may have four. Marry, and praise be to Allah, and the mother of the children remains with them.
