Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on using the shamma that is placed in the mouth? We request that the fatwa be sent to the mosques in the southern region of Jizan, and we ask that the authorities be alerted to the fact that it is being sold in front of people. May Allah reward you with good?

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
All types of smoking are forbidden, all are impure, and all are harmful, whether it is shamma or otherwise. It is obligatory for a person of intellect to avoid it, for in this affliction there is a combination of religious, physical, and financial harm. It is among the impure things that are forbidden, and it is harmful to a person’s body and health, harmful to his wealth and economy, and harmful to his religion due to its impurity and prohibition.
It is obligatory for one who uses it to avoid it, and trading in it is not permissible. In fact, its sale and purchase are forbidden, as is giving it as a gift, and as is its use. Just as intoxicants are forbidden in all their types, so are the types of smoking, due to the many harms and the great impurity therein. Yes.
