Is the hadith of Ibn 'Umar authentic that he performed wudu in his house, then went out and wiped over his leather socks in the mosque?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is this chapter authentic, Shaykh? A hadith from Ibn 'Umar that "he performed wudu when he entered the mosque, then I say the call to prayer was made, so he entered the mosque and wiped over his leather socks in the mosque, then he prayed." Is this hadith authentic?

The Shaykh : No, by Allah, I do not know; I do not remember. Do you remember its source?

The questioner : He mentioned it in Sharh al-Sunnah, Sharh al-Sunnah. He mentioned that it is in al-Muwatta, and the editor, who is Shu'ayb, said that it is with a sound chain of narration.

The Shaykh : In any case, this is first an athar, and then this is a specific incident. As some jurists say, "This is a specific case with no general application." Because we are far from the incident, not only in terms of time, but also in terms of knowing where he performed wudu and where the mosque was. It may be in one of the forms I mentioned earlier, meaning he may have been close to the mosque, in which case it is excused, or he may not have been. Also, it is an athar and does not have the ruling of a marfu' hadith.
