Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I am a young man who has been afflicted with a sin. Every time I repent from it, I return to committing it. I want to get rid of it. Is it permissible for me, if I commit it, to make a vow to fast a day in the path of Allah or to give charity, so that this will deter me from doing it again?

Answer:
Answer: One is prohibited from making vows, so do not make a vow. But resolve to repent and repeat it, and do not despair of the mercy of Allah. You may say, "I have repented" how many times? No, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Every time you sin, repent to Allah, the Exalted and Majestic: (And those who, when they commit an indecency or wrong themselves, remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins). Do not despair of the mercy of Allah; repent to Allah.
