The Ruling on the Hadith: (If You Had Not Sinned...) and Its Meaning

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the authenticity of this hadith? The questioner says, “O His Eminence the Shaykh, what is its meaning:
If you did not make mistakes or sin, Allah would bring a people who make mistakes and then repent.إذا لم تخطئوا أو تذنبوا ليأتين الله بقوم يخطئون فيتوبون
? And what is the interpretation of that? And what is derived from this hadith?”

Answer:
It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
if you were not to commit sin, Allah would sweep you out of existence and He would replace (you by) those people who would commit sin and seek forgiveness from Allah, and He would have pardoned them.لو لم تذنبوا لذهب الله بكم، وجاء بقوم يذنبون فيستغفرون فيغفر لهم
Sahih Muslim 2749
This is from His mercy and His generosity that He, (Exalted and Majestic is He), decreed for His servants the existence of sins, and then He, the Exalted, accepts their repentance if they repent to Him.
Therefore, a servant should not despair. This means: do not despair and do not lose hope, but rather hasten to repent, as Allah the Exalted said:
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sinsقُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ لا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا
[Surah al-Zumar: 53], meaning: for those who repent. So, the magnitude of the sins and the magnitude of the forgiveness .
So it is not befitting for the servant to lose hope, but rather it is befitting for him to hasten to repentance and seeking forgiveness and having good opinion of Allah, even if he did what he did of sins. But he must strive to maintain [his faith] and be cautious, and Allah accepts the repentance of whoever repents, (Exalted and Majestic is He).

The presenter: May Allah reward you, and bless you, His Eminence the Shaykh.
