Souls meet after death.

Question:
Is it true that souls meet after death, and what is the relationship to their being in Paradise or in the Fire?

Answer:
Answer: Yes, souls meet. This is as stated by Allah the Exalted: "Allah takes the souls at the time of their death" — this is the major death — "and those that have not died, in their sleep." That is, He takes the soul that has not died in its sleep, meaning in its slumber. Sleep is a death, but it is a minor death. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: "It is He who takes you by night and knows what you have done by day." The souls of the living who have slept meet in their state of sleep with the souls of the dead who are in the graves. For this reason, they appear to one another; the living see the dead. Also, some exchange of information occurs between the living and the dead, and they ask one another questions. Then Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) seizes or holds back the one for whom He has decreed death, and He sends back the other, the one who has not died, sending it when it awakens from its sleep to a specified term, which is the lifespan that Allah has written for it. This is among the wonders of His power (Glorified and Exalted is He). The souls of the living meet with the souls of the dead, and for this reason, an exchange of information occurs between them. It happens that the dead ask the living for things, either to settle debts or to inform them about matters, which they then find to be true, just as they were told.
