Question:
In the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah, what are the best deeds? And is it obligatory for the pilgrim to fast on the Day of 'Arafah?

Answer:
Answer: He said: (peace and blessings be upon him) — There are no days in which righteous deeds are better or more beloved to Allah than these ten days. He did not specify a particular type of righteous deed, so the Muslim should strive in righteous deeds, such as takbir, which is the symbol of these days. (And remember Allah during the counted days) are the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah, and this is done through takbir, tahlil, and tasbih, and one should increase in this. Also, fasting: one fasts the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah. And likewise, all other acts of obedience: one strives in these days, because they are blessed days, and deeds performed in them have great virtue and a large reward. They are noble and blessed days. As for the Day of 'Arafah, it is not recommended for the pilgrim to fast on the Day of 'Arafah, so that he may strengthen himself for standing. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood while not fasting and drank milk, and people were looking at him to know that he was not fasting. Rather, fasting is for those who are not standing at 'Arafah.
