The ruling on one who eats or drinks while fasting out of forgetfulness

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q311: The questioner, M. M. 'A. from Riyadh, asks: What is the ruling on one who eats or drinks out of forgetfulness while fasting voluntarily?
A311: There is no difference between voluntary fasting and obligatory fasting in this matter. So, if one forgets while fasting and eats or drinks, this does not affect his fast; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever eats out of forgetfulness while fasting, let him complete his fast, for it is Allah Who has fed him and given him to drink.من نسي فأكل أو شرب وهو صائم فليتم صومه فإنما أطعمه الله وسقاه
