Clarification of the statement regarding the reward of one who gives in charity with forbidden wealth

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner, Faraj Abdul Salam from Minya, Egypt, says: We seek clarification on this question—may Allah reward you with good, O honorable Shaykh—what is the ruling and the fate of the wealth that a servant acquires from forbidden sources? He has repented to Allah, and then he gave this wealth in charity. Will he be rewarded for it? Please give us a ruling, and may you be rewarded.

Answer:
He is rewarded for his repentance, his repentance from the forbidden act. He must return the wealth to its owners if he took it by robbery or theft; he must return it to its owners. Allah will reward him for his repentance and erase what has passed, but he must return the money and dirhams to their owners. If he does not know them, he gives it in charity on their behalf, with the intention for them, along with repentance to Allah. Allah will reward him for his repentance, Glorified and Exalted is He, and for clearing his conscience of these moneys that he took without right.
