Giving charity with wages with the intention that the reward belongs to the owner

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 8406 )
Q: I inform your eminence that I had workers on a farm under my sponsorship, and one of them was working for one of my relatives. After a period of time, they ran away from the work at my place and at my relative's place, leaving behind some of their wages. I ask you to inform me about what I must do with the remaining wages. Should I give it as charity on their behalf? Please note that because of their leaving the work, my business was disrupted for a period of time. Also, please note that I handed their passports to the competent authority. Please inform me, may Allah reward you with good.
A: If the situation is as described, then make your effort to identify them through the addresses you obtained when contracting with them, and pay them their rights. If you are unable to do so, then give charity on behalf of each one if he is a Muslim, with the intention that the reward is for him. If he is not a Muslim, then give the charity to clear the conscience of the one giving it. If he comes to you later, inform him of the reality. If he is satisfied, then that is fine; otherwise, pay his right to him, and you will have the reward of the charity.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
