The Obligation of the Ignorant Person Learning How to Perform the Prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q194: The questioner says: My grandmother prays the five obligatory prayers in full, but unfortunately her prayer is incorrect from beginning to end. She sometimes does not bow, does not recite the tashahhud, and sometimes recites al-Fatihah instead of the tashahhud. In addition, she says the taslim after every rak'ah. My elder brother explained to her that her prayer was wrong, but she does not accept it from us. Even if we taught her the correct prayer, she would not be able to learn it because she is accustomed to
her way of praying. So, is she sinful for that? And is anything obligatory upon us, or what should we do? Please issue a ruling for us, may Allah reward you.
A194: This woman is in one of two states. The first state is that her mental condition is impaired and she does not understand what is said to her. In this case, there is no blame on her, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:[At-Taghabun 64:16]. So, there is no blame on her as long as you have explained the error to her, but she was unable to understand. There is no blame on her, if Allah wills, for this is the limit of her ability. However, if her intention is sound and she did that out of ignorance, then she has no excuse. Because if an ignorant person finds someone who can explain it to him and teach him, his excuse is removed, and it becomes obligatory upon him to take the path of correctness. It is obligatory upon you to repeat the explanation to her, to warn her of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and that this does not absolve her from responsibility. This is what is within your capacity. If she rectifies herself, praise be to Allah. Otherwise, you have fulfilled the obligation, and ask Allah for guidance for her.

So fear Allah as much as you are able and listen and obey and spend [in the way of Allah]; it is better for your selves. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be the successful.
