Breaking the fast before sunset
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 18559 )
Q2: What is the ruling on one who fasts and then something happens that breaks his fast just before sunset? Does this fasting suffice for him, or what?
A2: The time for fasting is from the appearance of the second dawn until the setting of the sun. So, if one fasts and then consumes something that breaks the fast before the sun sets, his fast is invalid and it is obligatory for him to make it up if his fast was obligatory. As for if his fast was voluntary, there is no blame on him for that and there is no making it up. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
