The Woman's Hijab in Hajj
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa: Number ( 19104 )
Q: My mother and I went to perform the obligatory Hajj in the year 1413 AH. At that time, she was approximately sixty-five years old (65). My uncle, who is my wife’s father, was with us, and there is no kinship between him and them. Also, my wife’s brother’s husband (my wife’s brother-in-law) was present, and our group was one, meaning we sat together in the same tent. My mother was not wearing the hijab
nor was my wife’s sister, due to ignorance of the ruling. The question, O honorable Shaykh: Is my mother’s Hajj valid or not? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good. Is my wife’s sister’s Hajj valid as well?
A : It is obligatory for a woman to veil herself from men who are not her mahram, and not to be alone with them, and to adorn herself with modesty and shyness, whether in Hajj or otherwise. If a woman exposes her face during her Hajj in the presence of non-mahram men, believing that it is not permissible for a woman in ihram to cover her face at all, this does not invalidate her Hajj, and her Hajj is valid. However, she has committed a forbidden act by exposing her face before non-mahram men, and she is sinful for it. She must repent with sincere repentance, increase in voluntary acts of obedience, supplicate to Allah, and ask Him for forgiveness and acceptance of her repentance, so that perhaps Allah may forgive her. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
