Q: I have an aunt who is suffering from a mental illness and is currently undergoing treatment. The problem is that she cannot tolerate crowds. When she sees people crowded together, she becomes tense and agitated, and it is difficult to control her. I remember taking her for 'Umrah in 1418 AH, and she caused us a lot of hardship because of her loud voice and her exhaustion. The problem now is that she has not performed Hajj, and I do not know what to do, because in her current condition she is unable to perform Hajj. I wanted your permissibility to issue a ruling on this matter, may Allah preserve you: Should I have someone perform Hajj on her behalf, or should I take her for Hajj, or what should I do?
A : It is obligatory to wait, in case this impediment is removed from your aunt and she performs Hajj herself. If this impediment persists and you despair of its removal, then she should appoint someone to perform Hajj al-Islam on her behalf.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
