Fatwa number ( 17545 )
Q: My grandmother left a bequest instructing me to perform Hajj on her behalf. Since I am bedridden due to my legs and advanced age, and I am unable to perform Hajj, I appointed the person referred to as “M. S.” to perform Hajj on my behalf for my grandmother. I covered the costs of his Hajj by giving him two thousand six hundred riyals for this purpose. Does this Hajj fulfill that bequest?
A : There is no objection to appointing someone to perform Hajj on behalf of your grandmother who appointed you to perform Hajj on her behalf, provided that the person you appoint is trustworthy and has already performed Hajj for himself. There is no objection to paying him money to perform Hajj with, whether it comes from your own money or from the money of the person for whom you are acting. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
