Q: I want to perform Hajj this year, and I live in the Eastern Region, and my family is in Jeddah . I want to perform Hajj as a mutamatti'. Is it obligatory for me to enter ihram from Jeddah or from the miqat of al-Sail ? And if I enter ihram from al-Sail , is it obligatory for me to remove my ihram while I am a mutamatti' for both Hajj and 'Umrah in Jeddah near my family, or does the ihram remain on me until the time of Hajj?
A : Whoever passes by one of the miqats or aligns with it from the air or otherwise while intending Hajj or 'Umrah, it is obligatory for him to enter ihram from that miqat, even if his home is in Jeddah or in Makkah . If he enters ihram as a qarin, he remains in his ihram from the miqat until he throws the pebbles at the Jamarat on the Day of Sacrifice, and shaves his head, or performs the tawaf of ifadah. If he goes to his family in Jeddah before Hajj, he goes with his ihram and remains in his ihram without removing it until he completes the rites. As for the one who enters ihram from the miqat for 'Umrah as a mutamatti' for Hajj, when he completes the 'Umrah, he removes his ihram, and there is no harm in him going to Jeddah or elsewhere, then entering ihram for Hajj from the place where he is residing
after the 'Umrah. Likewise, the qarin between Hajj and 'Umrah, it is prescribed for him to perform tawaf and sa'y when he arrives in Makkah , and make it an 'Umrah, and shave or shorten his hair if he does not have a sacrificial animal, then enter ihram for Hajj at its time from the place where he is residing in Makkah or outside it, and thereby he becomes a mutamatti' with 'Umrah for Hajj. Likewise, the one who enters ihram for Hajj alone (ifrad) and does not have a sacrificial animal, it is prescribed for him to make his ihram an 'Umrah like the qarin; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the qarin among his Companions and those who performed Hajj alone (ifrad) who did not have sacrificial animals to do so. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
