Ruling on Doubt Regarding the Invalidation of Ablution
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q27: The questioner, K. A. from Jeddah, asks: What is the ruling if a person doubts whether his wudu' (ablution) has been invalidated or not?
A27: If he is in a state of wudu' and doubts whether his wudu' has been invalidated or not, his wudu' remains valid; because the purity is certain, while the state of impurity is doubtful, and certainty is not removed by doubt. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about what a person finds in his prayer, where he imagines that he has passed wind, he said (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 361 He should verify it first. So, certainty is not removed by doubt. This is a principle derived from this hadith.

He should not return (from prayer) unless he hears a sound or perceives a smell (of passing wind).
