Ruling on combining prayers due to study hours

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q521: The questioner says: This is a message from students at Aden University in the Democratic Republic of Yemen. They say: We are a group of students at Aden University, and we are diligent in performing the prayers at their times. However, during study hours, especially when classes are after noon, we may miss the 'Asr and Maghrib prayers, because we are unable to perform them at the university no matter how much we try, for many reasons. We ask: Is it permissible for us to perform the 'Asr prayer with the Zuhr prayer as a combined early prayer, and the Maghrib prayer with the 'Isha' prayer as a combined late prayer, so that we are saved from leaving these two obligatory acts, or saved from performing them as some of us do occasionally?
A521: First: If it is possible for you to perform the prayer at its time, during study hours, then this is obligatory. This is done by consulting the officials at the university
so that they allow you a time to pray in, and you return to work. The matter is easy, it does not burden you, and it does not take much time. This is a feasible matter. If it is possible for you to get an opportunity to perform the prayer at its time during study hours, then this is obligatory and specific. However, if this is not possible, and you have tried to obtain it but it was not realized, then here: If the study is necessary and leaving it causes harm to you, then I see no objection to combining the two prayers in the manner mentioned in the question, namely that you perform the Zuhr and 'Asr as a combined early prayer, and the Maghrib and 'Isha' as a combined late prayer. Because this is considered among the excuses that permit combining, because the jurists mentioned that among the excuses that permit combining is that one is harmed in his livelihood which he needs. So if leaving the study causes harm to you, and you did not get an opportunity from the officials to perform the prayer during work, what I see is the permissibility of combining in this case. As for performing the prayer as making up a missed prayer as mentioned in the question, this is not permissible to be performed as a make-up after its time has passed, so this is not permissible.
