Ruling on delaying the prayer from its time for the sake of study
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: There are some Muslim brothers studying in America who are unable to perform the prayer in its time, whether in congregation or individually, due to the times of the academic lectures here in American universities. Also, some of the brothers are unable to perform the Friday prayer for a long period that may reach a full academic term. What is the ruling in this matter? May Allah reward you with good.
A: It is obligatory for every Muslim to pray the prayer in its time, and it is not permissible to delay it from its time for the sake of some lessons or lectures, unless he is a traveler who is permitted to combine prayers, or a sick person for whom it is difficult to pray every prayer in its time. You and those like you do not have the ruling of travelers; because of your intention to reside for a long period. A traveler who intends to reside for more than four days is required to pray the prayer of the resident, four rak'ahs, and he is not permitted to combine according to the majority of the scholars of knowledge.
So it is obligatory for every Muslim in any place to fear Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and to pray the prayer in its times in congregation, and to beware of being lax in that, or taking a dispensation in combining without a valid religious excuse. And he must pray the Friday prayer with the Muslims if he is in a place where the Friday prayer is performed, and it is not permissible for him to be lax in that.
May Allah guide all the Muslims to understanding in His religion and steadfastness upon it, for He is the All-Hearing, the Near.
