Fatwa No. ( 17664 )
Q1: We are a group of brothers, each of us working in a different area with his family, and on the occasion of 'Id al-Adha we gather at our father's place. Is the father's sacrifice sufficient for all of us , or must each of us sacrifice separately? Please note that we have not yet divided the shared inheritance. Please inform us about this, and may Allah reward you with good?
A1: It is the Sunnah for every head of a household to sacrifice one sheep on behalf of himself and his family; based on the hadith of Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "A man among us would sacrifice a single sheep on behalf of himself and his family, and they would eat from it and feed others."
