The first and third questions of Fatwa No. ( 16091 )
Q1: On the first day of the month of Ramadan, we did not form the intention to fast until seven in the morning, because we did not know that Wednesday was a day of Ramadan until
the morning. Is this day considered a valid fast? And is it obligatory for me to make it up because the intention was not formed until late?
A1: It is obligatory for you to make up the day of Ramadan for which you did not form the intention to fast during the night, because the intention during the night is a condition for the validity of every obligatory fast. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan an-Nasa'i 2331 Narrated by the five.
