Forgetting the prayer: Does it affect one's fast?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 18391 )
Q1: What is the ruling on a fasting person who fasted without praying the 'Isha' prayer and the tarawih prayer, having forgotten them?
A1: The fast is valid, and the prayer that the fasting person forgot is obligatory for him to make up. The tarawih prayer that he missed is not obligatory to make up, because it is a voluntary prayer. If he prays whatever he is able to during the day, that is better; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he missed a prayer from the night due to sleep or illness, would pray it during the day. Likewise, if he prays the witr during the day, he prays two rak'ahs. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
