Does the one who prays and then abandons prayer have to make it up?

The fifth question of Fatwa No. ( 18799 )
Q 5: The one who used to pray and then abandoned prayer for a month or two or more, and then Allah the Exalted guided him to the path of guidance and truth—does he have to make up the missed prayers or not?
A 5: The one who abandons prayer for a month or two or less or more must renew his Islam and repent to Allah with sincere repentance, and feel remorse for what has passed; because abandoning prayer entirely is major shirk (associating partners with Allah). It is prescribed for him to increase in voluntary acts of obedience and to supplicate humbly before Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He); perhaps Allah will forgive him and overlook what has passed and accept his repentance, for repentance annuls what came before it, and he is not required to make up the missed prayers. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
