Making up the days fasted due to a prolonged illness
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 16052 )
Q: I was afflicted with an illness and I am still suffering from this illness to this day. In the year I fell ill, it was during the month of Ramadan, and I have not fasted that month until now because I am still undergoing treatment. Every three months, I undergo a procedure at the hospital to complete my treatment, and my treatment will not end for another five years. I am aware that I work far from the area where I lived, and I am unable to fast because it is difficult for me. What should I do? Please advise us, may you be rewarded.
A: You must make up the number of days you did not fast from Ramadan after Allah heals you from your illness. If the illness continues with you and you do not expect to be cured of it,
then you must feed one poor person for every day. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
