Ruling on one who breaks the fast in Ramadan due to illness

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner is a guest of Allah from al-Qassim, al-Ras. He says: Your Eminence, I have a brother who was struck by an illness, which is kidney failure. He broke his fast for two days last year, and the illness intensified for him in the current Ramadan. He remained in the hospital for fifteen days of Ramadan, and the doctors advised him not to fast in order to preserve his health. He did not fast the entire month. The question is: Does he have to make up the fasts or give charity? And what is the standard for the charity? Is it a sa' or half a sa' for each day? We ask for clarification. May Allah reward you.

Answer:
As long as he hopes for recovery, he must fast. He has to make up the missed fasts from the previous Ramadan, and make up the fasts of the current Ramadan. If the specialized doctors determine that he is hopeless for a cure and that his health will not return to him, then he must feed one poor person half a sa' for each day. Half a sa' for each poor person for each day: one and a half kilograms of the staple food of the country, whether dates, barley, wheat, or rice, for each person. That means fifteen sa' for the whole month, half a sa' for each day, whether to one poor person, or two, or three. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you and bless you.
