Fatwa number ( 20574 )
Q: I have a wife who suffers from health pains, and she was unable to
fast last Ramadan in the past year, and she is currently unable to fast for this reason, we seek your ruling on what is obligatory for her regarding making up the fasts and expiation? Please rule for us, may Allah reward you.
A: If the recovery of the woman mentioned is expected, she should delay making up the fasts until she recovers, then make up what she missed from Ramadan. If her recovery is not expected in the future, she should feed one poor person for each day she missed, with a quantity of one and a half kilograms of the staple food of the people of the country, and this suffices in place of fasting; because the ruling is established by the report of a group of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and may Allah be pleased with them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
