Postponing the Making Up of Ramadan by a Woman in Postpartum Bleeding and Others

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 14107 )
Q: Some mothers make up the month of Ramadan in later years. For example, a woman did not fast the month of Ramadan in the year 1410 AH due to illness or postpartum bleeding, and then she makes it up after the Ramadan of the following year. Some mothers do not make up the month of Ramadan, but instead give charity in money or the like on behalf of that month. We ask your Eminence to guide us to what is good and right. Peace be upon you, and may Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you.
A: First: If a woman breaks her fast in Ramadan due to menstruation, postpartum bleeding, or illness, she must make up the number of days she missed after Ramadan, once the excuse is removed. Second: If the excuse persists and she is unable to make up the fasts until another Ramadan arrives, it is obligatory for her to make up the fasts only, once the excuse is removed. If she delays making them up out of negligence until another Ramadan arrives, it is obligatory for her to make up the fasts and pay expiation; the expiation is feeding one poor person for every day she delayed making up. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
