Fatwa number ( 14356 )
Q: My mother last Ramadan, she was giving birth in that same month, and after Ramadan she was breastfeeding and wanted to make up the fasts, but she was afraid for the child, and she was unable to make them up until this Ramadan came . Please rule on what she should do for that month. Also, since she is fasting this month, is it permissible for her children to fast on her behalf, or does she have to pay an expiation, and how does she pay it? And may Allah reward you with good.
A: It is obligatory for your mother to make up the number of days she missed in Ramadan, even if it is after another Ramadan, and there is no expiation; because she did not be lax in making up the fasts, but rather the delay was due to breastfeeding her newborn. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
