Fatwa number ( 15224 )
Q: I performed Hajj last year, 1412 AH, and on the second day of the days of Tashreeq I performed the farewell tawaf after the 'Asr prayer, but I stayed overnight in the Holy Makkah , and did not travel to Ta'if until the morning of the following day. Please inform me whether the farewell tawaf that I and my family performed is sufficient, or do I have to pay an expiation, or am I required to repeat the tawaf, I and my family? Please inform me, may Allah reward you.
A : Whoever performs the farewell tawaf for Hajj and then stays in Makkah after the tawaf for a short period does not have to repeat it. However, if the stay after the tawaf is long, he is required to repeat the tawaf. Since you performed the farewell tawaf after the 'Asr prayer and did not travel until the morning of the following day, and you traveled without repeating the tawaf, it is obligatory for each of you to slaughter a sacrificial animal that is sufficient as an 'Id sacrifice, to be slaughtered in Makkah and distributed to the poor of the Haram. However, if there was a menstruating or postpartum woman with you, she does not have to perform the farewell tawaf. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
