Breaking the Fast Before the Adhan

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 15861 )
Q1: What is the ruling on one who broke his fast before the adhan by approximately (5 minutes ), and the reason for breaking his fast was: looking at the time of the day before? Example: He broke his fast today at (47: 6), tomorrow he broke his fast at (49: 6), and the adhan is at (50: 6).
A1: The time for fasting is from the appearance of the dawn until the setting of the sun, and whoever breaks his fast before the setting of the sun must make up the fast, and it is not permissible to rely entirely on the clock, rather it is obligatory to observe the setting of the sun; because the time differs from one day to another.
Q2: If a person intended to fast at the beginning of the month of Ramadan, and the next day the Ministry of Religious Affairs announced that the crescent moon was not seen, so he completed his fast, what is required of him?
A2: It is not permissible to precede Ramadan by fasting one day or two days, and if your fasting for the day mentioned was for the purpose of verifying the start of Ramadan, then you should break your fast, especially since the non-entry of Ramadan has been announced; due to the hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Do not observe fast for a day, or two days ahead of Ramadan except a person who is in the habit of observing a particular fast; he may fast on that day.لا تقدموا رمضان بصوم يوم ولا يومين، إلا رجل كان يصوم صومًا فليصمه
Sahih Muslim 1082a
. It is agreed upon on its authenticity. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
