Q: My father passed away and left us a piece of land. My brothers and I sold it five years ago, but we have not yet given my brothers their share of their inheritance from our father; because we were in need of these amounts; because we were in a project to build our house, and this was an agreement with the consent of all my brothers until we have money to give them their right in the inheritance. The right of each of my brothers was (1000) Egyptian pounds five years ago. The question: Is it permissible for me to give, for example, my sister only the amount of (1000) pounds? Knowing that one thousand pounds five years ago could buy, for example, a qirat of land, whereas today one thousand pounds cannot buy, for example, a refrigerator. Do I compensate her for the past years, or what? And if I give her only one thousand pounds, I will be unjust to her. Guide us and benefit us, may Allah reward you with good.
A: You must give them their share in pounds, regardless of the difference in price. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
