Finding a wallet containing money and disposing of it
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 14218 )
Q1: I found a wallet about four years ago containing approximately four hundred riyals. I disposed of it out of ignorance. Before disposing of it, I searched for its owner but could not find him. What should I do to atone for what I did? Thank you. .
A1: It is obligatory for the one who finds lost property to announce it for a period of one year in the public gatherings near the place where it was found, after describing its characteristics. If he does not find its owner, he should give it in charity to the poor with the intention that it be on behalf of the owner. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
