Found a gold ring and gave it to his mother, and she asked about it

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 18934 )
Q1: About five years ago, I found a gold ring on the road, so I took it and then gave it to my mother. Whenever my mother went to a place where women gather, she would say: "Who lost a ring?" But no one responded, and the
ring is still there to this day.
I hope you will inform me whether I should sell it and give its price in charity, or what I should do? I ask for your advice and guidance.

A1: If the situation is as described, and your mother announced this ring in gatherings of women for five years, and the owner of the ring was not identified, then it is permissible for you to benefit from it. However, if its owner comes forward and identifies it, even after years, it is obligatory to give him his ring or its price. And if you give it in charity, or its price, with the intention of it being on behalf of its owner, that is more preferable and safer.
