Dividing the group of students into the school’s floors due to the narrowness of the space

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: We are high school students. When we want to pray the midday prayer at school, the school administration divides the students into two groups: students on the first floor and students on the second floor. They pray at the same time behind one imam. Sometimes the voice—meaning the imam’s voice—does not reach those on the second floor, which causes each student to complete his prayer alone. We inform you that it is possible to gather the students in
one place to pray the midday prayer with them, as we did in previous years. What is the ruling on this action, and what is the ruling on the prayer of the one who prayed on the second floor?

A: It is permissible for the students on both floors to pray behind one imam if his voice reaches them. If the voice is cut off for some times due to an obstacle, then those whose hearing of the voice is cut off complete the prayer for themselves, either individually or with an imam chosen from among them who completes the prayer with them. If it is easy for them to gather in one place where they can pray, then that is better and more secure for following the imam.
