He also asks, saying: What is the ruling on a fasting person who travels from his hot region to a region with cold weather, or to a country where the day is short?

The questioner : He also asks, saying: What is the ruling on a fasting person who travels from his hot region to a region with cold weather, or to a country where the day is short?

The Shaykh : There is no blame on him in that if he is able to do so, for there is no blame in doing it, because this is doing what lightens the burden of worship upon him, and doing what lightens the burden of worship upon him is a desirable thing. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pour water over his head from thirst or from heat while he was fasting, and Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to wet his garment while he was fasting, and it was mentioned that Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) had a pool of water in which he would descend while he was fasting. All of this is for the sake of lightening the burdens of worship, and the more the worship is lightened for a person, the more energetic he becomes in performing it, and he performs it while at ease and relaxed. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a person from praying while he is holding in his urine, meaning he is restrained from urinating, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
No Salat (prayer) should be performed when the food has been served, nor should it be performed when a person is in need of relieving himself. لا صلاة بحضرة طعام ولا وهو يدافع الأخبثان
Riyad as-Salihin 1753
All of this is so that a person performs his worship while at ease, relaxed, and turning to his Lord.
And on this basis, there is no objection to a fasting person remaining near the air conditioner and in a cold room, and the like of that.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
