Why did Allah single out the Qur'an for preservation, unlike the other books?

Fatwa No. (22275)

Q: I live in an area—may Allah preserve you—where there are many Christians, most of whom are Christian sorcerers. I used to read a lot of Sheikh Ahmad Deedat’s works so that I could respond to their doubts and deceptions. By the grace of Allah, He enabled me to answer many of their questions persuasively, and they are unable to answer my questions. One of them asked me: Why does Allah single out the Qur'an for preservation, unlike the other heavenly books, when they all come from Allah? I have been unable to find research on this topic, and the answers I find are not suitable for responding to them. I have not found appropriate books to refute these doubts so that I can study them. I ask Allah to grant me success in answering this question. What is your advice to me? I also ask you, O Shaykh, to make supplication for me and my brother, Waleed Sayyid Ahmad Aamer, in your absence.
A: The wisdom—may Allah know best—behind Allah’s undertaking to preserve the Qur'an, unlike the other revealed books, is that the Qur'an is the final of the heavenly books and the one that oversees them. Allah revealed it to be a way of life for jinn and mankind until the Hour, which is different from the heavenly books that came before it, as those were addressed to specific people for a specific period. Our advice to you is to exert your utmost effort to deepen your understanding of
the Islamic Shari'ah, relying on what the trusted scholars have written, both in the past and the present, so that your discussion with the Christians who came before you and your calling of them to Islam is based on knowledge and insight. This is in accordance with the saying of the Exalted:
This is my way; I invite to Allah with insight, I and those who follow meقُلْ هَذِهِ سَبِيلِي أَدْعُو إِلَى اللَّهِ عَلَى بَصِيرَةٍ أَنَا وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَنِي
[Yusuf 12:108]
, and let your discussion and argument with them be with wisdom and good exhortation, in accordance with His saying—Mighty and Majestic:
Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is bestادْعُ إِلَى سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ وَجَادِلْهُمْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ
[An-Nahl 16:125]
. Beware of entering into matters about which you have no knowledge, lest you go astray and lead others astray, for speaking about the religion of Allah without knowledge is a cause of destruction in this world and the Hereafter. You are accountable and will be questioned for every word you say. Be a role model for those you call to the religion of Allah in your words and actions, for the caller is a role model for those he calls. May Allah guide us and you to the path of righteousness.
