Fatwa No. ( 14453 )
Q: I am a Saudi citizen with a farm of approximately one hundred hectares (100). I plant wheat, and by the grace of Allah, it yields approximately five hundred tons (500). I save about twenty (20) tons for seeds for the coming year, and I send the remainder (four hundred and eighty tons) to the government – the silos and grains authority – so that they take the zakah and purchase the rest. Is zakah due on the value of the twenty (20) tons I have saved for seeding, given that they remain with me for six months? This is our question, and we offer you our sincere thanks and gratitude.
A: Zakah is obligatory on the entire harvest of grains. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
