Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The seventh question from fatwa number ( 18083 )
Q7: A- A farmer sold a quantity of wheat from his farm's produce to meet some of his needs. Is zakah obligatory on this amount? Is zakah due on the quantity of grains or on the cash? And what is the ruling on buying and selling in this regard?
B- A farmer sold wheat seeds from his farm's produce to other farmers, some for cash and the rest on credit for the grain silos. Is zakah obligatory in both cases? C- A person took wheat seeds from his farm's produce, specifically for his own farm for the year following the year he took the seeds. He then delivered this produce to the grain silos. When he received his entitlement, the state took zakah on this harvest. Is zakah obligatory on the seeds he previously took?

A7: Zakah is obligatory on all crops when the grain becomes hard, by paying one-tenth of it if it is watered without expense, and half of one-tenth if it is watered with expense; based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
give its due [zakah] on the day of its harvestوَآتُوا حَقَّهُ يَوْمَ حَصَادِهِ
[Al-An'am 6:141]
, and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
the Ushr of what was watered by the heavens and steams, or through natural channels, and half of the Ushr for what is watered by irrigation.فيما سقت السماء والعيون أو كان عثريًّا العشر، وفيما سقي بالنضح نصف العشر
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 640Sahih (Darussalam)
agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. Accordingly, you must pay zakah on the seeds you mentioned. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
