The questioner : He has another question, saying that there was also another disagreement regarding the reality of the existence of sorcery and that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was bewitched. They deny this, arguing with the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Ma'idah 5:67] What is the truth in this, and how do we interpret this verse?
The Shaykh : The truth in this is that sorcery is established and there is no doubt in it; it is a reality, as indicated by the Qur'an and the Sunnah. As for the Qur'an, Allah mentioned the sorcerers of Pharaoh who threw their ropes and staffs and bewitched the eyes of the people and terrified them, until it was imagined to Musa (peace be upon him) from their sorcery that they were moving. And he felt fear in his heart, so Allah the Exalted commanded him to throw his staff. He threw it, and behold, it was a clear serpent devouring what they fabricated. This is a matter in which there is no problem. As for the fact that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was bewitched, it is the truth. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he was bewitched, in the hadith of A'ishah and others, and that it was imagined to him that he had done something when he had not done it. But Allah the Exalted revealed to him the surahs[Al-Falaq 113:1] and [An-Nas 114:1], and Allah the Exalted cured him with them. As for the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Ma'idah 5:67], this does not contradict this. This is if the verse had not been revealed yet. And I do not recall at this moment whether this verse was before his being bewitched or after? It appears to me that it was after the bewitchment. And if it was after the bewitchment, there is no problem with it. Yes.
