Q: What is the ruling on turning the hands in prayer at the time of taslim (when he says the taslim and finishes the prayer, he turns his hands while saying: Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy, peace be upon you and Allah's mercy)?
A : The Sunnah in the taslim is for the one praying to say: Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy to his right, and Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy to his left, and not to gesture with his hands; based on what is in (Sahih Muslim) from Jabir ibn Samurah who said:As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 5:474 . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and when we said the taslim, we used to say with our hands: Peace be upon you, peace be upon you. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at us and said: What is the matter with you, gesturing with your hands as if they were the tails of horses? When one of you says the taslim, let him turn to his companion and not gesture with his hand.
