Ruling on naming a Sudanese village Umm al-Qura

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I am informing you that I am from northern Sudan . We have a small village, and the name of the village has been changed to Umm al-Qura . We ask your Eminence to clarify for us regarding this name: is it permissible to use this name or not?
A: This naming is not appropriate, and its application does not extend to anything other than Makkah al-Musharrafa; for it is Allah who named it thus and legislated certain specific places within it, and nothing else rivals it in that. Furthermore, there is a fear of some people’s hearts becoming attached to something other than Makkah , which is the destination of the hearts of Muslims and their qiblah.
